Not long ago, handsome Rambo was living in deplorable conditions. Trapped in a tiny chicken run with several birds, this Tunis ram had no access to grass and his thick wool, which had not been shorn in years, caused him a lot of undue suffering under the blazing hot summer sun.
Recently, however, his terrible plight came to an end when staff at the Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary set out to help him and reached out to us for assistance. We were not only able to take him in and give him immediate care, but were also able to line up a forever home for this lovable ram through our Farm Animal Adoption Network. Along with Teddy and Felipe, two calves we rescued from neglect this past spring, he will shortly be heading down to Virginia to join his new family and a flock of sheep.
In the meantime, we have been keeping a watchful eye over Rambo’s health. He was neutered, shorn and vaccinated before he came to the New York Shelter, and since his arrival, we have been worming him and checking for diseases to make sure he is healthy before his move. Like many animals who have had rough beginnings, Rambo remains uncertain of humans. He is frightened and very shy, but just one look in his eyes assures you that he is the sweetest individual. We are confident that he will feel much more at ease once he joins his flock.
Though we will be sad to see such a resilient and wonderful animal go, Rambo will be well loved and well cared for in his new home. It is amazing to see the complete turnaround his life has made, and we are grateful that he will never suffer such neglect again.
