Hear ye! Hear ye! It’s my pleasure to announce that Farm Sanctuary will be working in Ohio to pass one of the most ambitious animal protection laws in American history, and we need your help!
Over the next five months, Farm Sanctuary staff and supporters will be joining other animal advocates on the ground in the Buckeye State to get this exciting initiative on the November ballot. To do that, we need to gather more than 600,000 signatures!
Those of you who remember California’s Proposition 2 in 2008 will recall that voters overwhelmingly supported the initiative, which banned veal crates for calves, gestation crates for breeding sows and battery cages for egg-laying hens. Seven states have now passed laws prohibiting one or more of these cruel confinement systems, and we’ve decided to up the ante in Ohio.
In addition to banning torturous cages and crates, the Ohio initiative would ban the sale and slaughter of downed cattle and prohibit inhumane methods of euthanasia. This proposed law would protect millions of Ohio’s farm animals from unspeakable suffering, but we can only do it with your help.
Join us in Ohio as a volunteer coordinator, or help us gather the petition signatures we need to get this groundbreaking initiative on the ballot. If you can’t travel to Ohio, find out how else you can help make this historic effort a success.
